COPING WITH A CANCER DIAGNOSIS?

A cancer diagnosis can represent a major upheaval in your life. Anxiety,

fearfulness, uncertainty and worry are common experiences when facing

a major illness. You can feel derailed, blindsided and shocked while attempting

to navigate a new reality. Often this can leave a person feeling overwhelmed.

I offer psychotherapy that is targeted to individuals with a cancer diagnosis and their family members. Together we can explore your experience living with a cancer diagnosis, through the stages of illness from diagnosis to end of treatment or survivorship.

In our therapy sessions you can expect to:

  • Develop effective strategies for coping with fear, worry & uncertainty

  • Learn how to cope with feelings of separation and loss

  • Learn communication skills that will help you communicate with loved ones and your medical network

  • Learn how to not lose YOUR SELF as you go through treatment

  • Reacquaint yourself with your values and take action with YOU in mind

  • Develop strategies to help you navigate post-treatment life - re-integration into work-life, family roles etc.

My Approach

MY APPROACH

I offer my clients a safe, open, non-judgemental space in which to explore the challenges inherent in life. I provide a collaborative approach where together we can work to untangle the knots that are keeping you from living your best life.

My approach is integrative, stemming from a psychodynamic foundation. I will incorporate key insights from a few major approaches (ie. cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness, humanistic) to tailor a treatment plan that is unique to every client with the intention of reducing suffering and enhancing well being.

I am guided in my therapeutic work by 3 main themes:

  • AWARENESS: Bringing into consciousness previously hidden themes, patterns, feelings and developing new insights. Getting to know your true self!

  • ACCEPTANCE: Learning to accept yourself, your thoughts, your feelings, your situation with grace and compassion. One of the best gifts you can give yourself.

  • CHANGE: Examine your actions. Are they in line with your values, your goals? Learn to develop effective, adaptive strategies that are in alignment with the real you!

perfection is not necessary.”
